The Tyrant’s Folly Pt. 2..
In 1 Samuel 13-14 we have a historical illustration of will worship in the person of King Saul, contrasted with true faith seen in his son Jonathan. Saul’s confused and superficial religion left him perplexed and left God’s people vexed, while Jonathan’s sincere faith in the Lord was God’s instrument of victory. In this contrast, we are warned that will worship (self-aggrandizing religion) is perplexing and vexing, while true faith, as John says in 1 John 5:4, is the victory that overcomes the world.
